Minutes of CALLR Fall meeting

Date: Thursday, November 11, 2022                                     Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Lee College Baytown

Members present:

The meeting was started at 10 a.m. with a welcome address by Telishia Mickens – Chair of CALLR (Director of Library and Learning Resources, Galveston College Library)

Business meeting.

The minutes of the spring meeting were accepted after a motion by Phil Roche and seconded by Keitha Robinson.

Library jobs

University of Houston Clear- Lake has 12 openings

Galveston college has one opening

Brazasport has some compact shelving to giveaway

Next meeting- University of Houston Clear Lake April 27th.

Refshare discussion - What role does your library play regarding Textbooks?

1.         What type of Textbook business model does your campus use?

a.         Bookstore?

b.         Electronic Textbook Services like VitalSource, BibliU, Redshelf, etc..

c.         Open Educational Resources (OER)?

d.         Combination E-Textbook, Open Educational Resources (OER), & Print Resources?

2.         What role or roles does your library play in that process?

3.         What role would you like to play if it was allowed?

4.         What services or resources do you provide students who may not have the funds to pay for their textbook?

a.         Provide a list of etextbooks that are available in your ebook databases?

b.         Refer students to Chegg or Amazon Kindle for purchase?

c.         Check out Amazon Kindles for textbook access?

d.         You have a limited collection of print textbooks that you purchase that students can use in the library only.  (Only one copy of the textbook for each course)

5.         How economical have these services been?
